The Fort Myers Film Festival is proud to announce the opening night film kicking off the 9th annual premiere event April 10, 2019 is “A Man and His Trumpet: The Leroy Jones Story.” The red carpet party rolls out at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center at 5:30 p.m. The film starts at 7 p.m. with afterparty on the stage to follow with stars and cast attending the Fort Myers Film Festival. A VIP membership to the whole festival is $295.

In a city full of brilliant musicians, Leroy Jones, trumpet virtuoso and consummate New Orleanian, is a musician’s musician. Follow Jones life journey as he came up playing on the streets of the Saint Bernard Projects, quickly establishing himself as one of NOLA’s most sought after trumpeters, founding the legendary Fairview Baptist Brass Band and Hurricane Brass Band which lead to the revival of the brass band scene in New Orleans. Leroy Jones eventually catches the ear of Harry Connick Jr. and ends up becoming Connick’s solo trumpeter, touring and recording with the Harry Connick Big Band for over 20 years. A decade after the storm that nearly destroyed his beloved city, Jones is navigating life as both a world renowned musician and a citizen amidst a rapidly changing New Orleans.

The Fort Myers Film Festival’s 9th annual festival will be held in the sunny, beautiful SW Florida region April 10-14, 2019 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, Alliance for the Arts, Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, Edison & Ford Winter Estates, Florida Southwestern College and IMAG with parties and dinners at Blu Sushi, Twisted Vine Bistro, Firestone and other select venues.

The Black Tie Red Carpet Opening Night Gala will be celebrated with excitement and style April 10, 2019 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center at 7 p.m. The opening night film “A Man and His Trumpet: The Leroy Jones Story,” directed by Cameron Washington will begin with the red carpet rolling out, paparazzi clicking and doors opening at 5 p.m. for drinks, mingling & musical entertainment with local and international filmmakers prior to the featured movie. Attending will be Mr. Washington and featured jazz trumpeter Leroy Jones. Tickets are $25 for movie only or $150 for movie and Red Carpet After Party which will inlude a fabulous full jazz concert featuring Mr. Jones and an after party including fully-stocked bar and a chance to meet with the stars of the evening’s film, other filmmakers and event VIPs. Then join us for all of the programming from April 11-14, 2019 at the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center. Films are $10 the rest of the festival. Finish off the weeklong celebration on Sunday, April 14, 2019 with a champagne & dessert awards ceremony at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre. Tickets are only $15. Enjoy a screening under the stars at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m. Enjoy this outdoor screening in the backyard of the home of the inventor of film Thomas Edison by with the films “A Tale of Two Halgrims,” by Ilene Saffron, “The Great Train Robbery,” from 1903 produced in Edison’s lab and “Coach” by filmmaker Jordan Axelrod. Tickets are $10 with and introduction by filmmaker Ilene Safron and remarks by director Michael Flanders.

See “Fly Like a Girl.” a film of a movement of young girls and women relentlessly pursuing their passion for aviation by Katie McEntire Wiatt with a meet and greet Q&A afterwards. Tickets are $10.
Enjoy a screening at Alliance for the Arts Friday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. Watch “Eliades Ochoa From Cuba To The World.” by Ruben Gomez documenting the live of Buena Vista Social Club founder. With treats, music and a Q&A to follow. Tickets are $10.
